Question:

Paid monthly or weekly? Which do you prefer?

I can't stand being paid monthly, I end up monitoring how much I spend, never treat myself, just buy boring stuff but by the last week of the month I'm skint.

When I've had jobs where I've been paid weekly I have been able to save up lots very quickly.

Also I feel it helps you get through the week at work knowing you'll be paid on friday, with monthly pay you have to wait for 30 days to drag by.

What do you think?

  1. Weekly, then every friday is a pay day and you don't get that 'end of the month but overdrawn' feeling!

  2. I prefer weekly, with monthly there's always too much month left over at the end of the money.

  3. I actually prefer biweekly (every other week). But I would never want to be paid monthly.

  4. i prefer weekly at least you dont need to share your money out over weekes too make it last weekely less chance of spending too much at once . keeps ya going through week so ya not waiting to long for next wage to go out en rave

  5. I have been paid monthly for the last ten years and it doesn't really bother me, when i was paid weekly i had the same problem last couple of days in the week no cash.

  6. Monthly.  Since my budget is balanced monthly this works for me.  Have no problem setting aside savings.

  7. At the moment I'm paid monthly but after this month I'll be paid weekly and I can't wait! It's so hard to keep track of your money when you're paid monthly and some months are longer than others so you could be waiting 5 weeks to be paid, or shorter months mean you could be surviving on only 3 and a half week's pay! And because I work different hours every week I never have a clue how much I'm going to be paid! Clearly I have strong opinions on this subject...!

  8. weekly.  my last job was monthly, it was a struggle to make last.  mostly money did not last.  i am a single parent, can you imagine training kids to wait to the end of the month i say i need.

  9. Weekly is better.....

  10. I prefer monthly, as all the bills (council tax, utilities, phone, TV license...) are monthly and so is my mortgage. That way, money goes in, bills go out and I can divide the rest up nicely in 4 or 5 weeks. It was too easy to overspend on 'weeks with no bills' when I was paid weekly.

When I changed to monthly pay (10 years ago already) I used MS Money for a few months to regulate my spending and it helped a lot (there's some nice free equivalent available too, so no need to splash on software).

  11. I agree with you.  I prefer being paid weekly.  At my last job I was paid every Thursday and now at my new job I'm only paid once a month.  And the company my husband works for is switching from a weekly payroll schedule to a bi-weekly one.  It sucks.
