babysit the next door neighbors' kids: 2 boys aged 4 and 1.

the other day i babysat for seven hours and was paid $80! i told the father it was too much but he said he didn't care. i live in an affluent town, so $10 is the norm, but i just feel almost like i'm taking advantage of these people. the other day i sat for them for 31/2 hours and got $50!

parents, what do you think?

  1. i think u must be a great sitter and those people love u very much. besides sitting for a 4 and 1 year old is hard.

  2. If they are willing to pay you that much then good for you. You didn't set the price he did.

  3. If that what he/she wants to give you then take it and be thakfull you didn't get someone cheap.  Save your money.

  4. If they are willing to give you that much than accept it. It's nice of you to be concerned though, hon. :)

  5. if that is what the parents want to pay you and you have already said you were happy with less, then it is no longer your problem. if anything, just say thank you very sincerely when they hand you the paycheck. if you do a really good job babysitting, then you will be worth 50$$ for 3 hours.

  6. I sit for a 5 year old and an 8 year for 5 hours and get 40$

  7. You should take whatever they pay you. Besides is that REALLY too much? You're not only taking care of "kids", you're taking care of people. For a moment, their lives are in your hands. I don't think you're getting overpaid.

  8. I personally think that it is too much but if the father is willing to give you that much than take it as a blessing and thank the Lord.

  9. if u are a good sitter they can trust, its priceless.

  10. you take what they give you and say thank you obviously they think you are doing a great job

  11. Take whatever they'll pay you....that's insane around here...but more power to you if you can get it.

You aren't setting the prices...they are.  He sounds happy to pay it and good sitters are hard to find.  I need to move to your community and start babysitting.

  12. there nothing wrong with making a little extra cash.

But if u think you are taking advantage of him try to talk to him about how you dont want to take that kind of money away from him and consider 10 dollars an hr if u think that is the norm

  13. I think $11.50 an hour is a reasonable wage for baby sitting...It would take a lot more than that for me to baby sit the neighbors kids! LOL...

  14. that's great for you!

  15. take what ever they will pay you

  16.   I say take it to the bank wearing a huge smile.

  17. That is a bit much, but if they are willing to pay you that much i'd say go for it

  18. well them you should be very thankful if you got $80 for seven hours...i get 64 for 8 hours!!..and i got 320 every friday its a good price for my age because this baby is 9months and bothers alot and its in a office full of people so is very uncomfortable!! so you doing good keep it up!!!

  19. I'm not a parent, but here's what i think...if they are willing to pay it then take it. its hard to take care of 2 young young boys alone...right?  I pet sit for these people everyday while they are at work and they were paying $5 a day...tthey recently got 3 new dogs and i feel like they are under paying me...4 dogs for 5 bucks??? id stick with the amount they are paying you!!

  20. I think you must be a great babysitter and they want to be sure they can get you in the future.

When my kids were young I always paid double the going rate. My favorite sitters hardly ever turned me down when I asked them to babysit.

Sounds like you both have a great thing going!! Enjoy it the same as I'm sure they are. Remember, to a parent, being able to leave the house and trust the kids are safe is priceless.

  21. its totally fair, day care would be sooooo much more
