My doctor gave me percosets (sp) for my shoulder I have terrible arthritis. The bottle says 2 every 4-6 hrs. Now I dont know if my body is getting use to them or what but 2 pills don't seem to be working. Do you think it's safe to take 3?

  1. No,  I really don't think it is safe to take 3.  Before you take a higher dose of the percocet, see if there is anything else you can do to alleviate some of the pain, like a moist heat compress, or an ice pack.  I don't think it would be a good idea to take more than what the prescription is written for.  For that, you will need to call your Doctor.  He/She may even allow you to alternate taking the percocet with advil or something like that.

I was prescribed percocet when I had my wisdom teeth out.  I was in a lot of pain and when I called for a refill the doctor basically said, "It's a controlled substance - if you're in that much pain, you need to be seen."  So, perhaps you need to follow up with your Doc if you're still hurting.  Good luck.

  2. Opiat pain medicines work well but never take more than directed. Instead ask your doctor about tramadol. It is an opiate mimic and is much less adictive. And has the same EFFECT in all aspects of the drug.

  3. Pain meds don't seem to help with arthritis and you will get hooked on the percosets after a few months, I have it bad also and only thing I have found that helps is celebrex I have heard of the risk but I only take one a day and after they build up in your system you can feel a big difference my doc says no more then i take I will be ok if they help and they do but ask your Doctor I think you should read up on causes of long term use of strong pain meds can cause alot of problems with kidneys, and Liver damage. wish you well....
