I'm gonna need to lose about 4 or more teeth and get an expander because my dentist says my mouth space is really small. I haven't pulled out any adult teeth beofre and most of my baby teeth are gone. What I'm worried about the pain of the adult teeths being pulled out. Will the pain feel really horrible like when u pull ur baby teeth with some tools even though ur tooth would still be there for 2 more years? When ever my dentist ejects some stuff in my nerves and tries to pull my teeth out he asks if it still hurts and it does. Once he asked me 4 times if it hurt still and it did, but i was getting bored of being numbed so i just gave up on telling him that it didn't work and felt alot of pain. Please tell me how much pain will be felt pulling the adult teeth by using 1 as in a little pain to 5 as in I'm gonna die! Please also give how much it pains when your baby tooth gets pulled. Thanks

  3. Sounds like your dentist isn't very good at getting people numb, I would suggest you find a new dentist.  The worst part of the extraction should be getting numb, and thats not bad.

  4. The area where the teeth will be pulled will be completely numb.  You shouldn't feel a thing except some tugging.  Being nervous can cause novacaine to wear off faster, so an option might be to ask if you can have a mild sedative before the dental work to help take the edge off.  They used to use nitrous oxide (called "laughing gas") for that, but most dentists don't use it anymore.

The worst part of it is the sound of a tooth being pulled.  After that, when the novacaine wears off, you'll be sore, but I'm sure your dentist will tell you how to handle that or even give you prescription painkillers for the first day or two.

Also, make sure you take care of your mouth according to dentist's instructions to avoid dry socket.

It's not that bad, just scary because you've never experienced it before.  I would definitely call a few days ahead and ask about the mild sedative though!
