for about 3-4 months i have had this pain in my bum which gets worse when i run or play football. i have seen a physiotherapist and he couldn't find any major problems he just thinks i should stretch my hamstrings as they are short. does anyone have any other advice?

it hurst most when i exercise, but sometimes just general bending or getting up to a standing position from sitting cause a slight sharp pain that last about a second. the pain is in my bum and it feels muscular

  1. It could be your sciatic nerve - it originates in the hip and runs down the leg.

I used to get pain in my hip a lot when I was in college, and my doc mainly recommended stretching it.  It would bother me when I sat for a while though, which is different from some of your symptoms.  But I would also feel it when using my hamstrings, using my quads didn't affect it at all.

  2. See a doctor immediately, you might have been infested with enterobium vermicularis.Just joking but really you should see a doctor. Many diseases remain undiagnosed because people don't report the symptoms earlier and we normally find that those diseases are usually curable. Please see your physician just to be on the safe side.

  3. I think sandand_surf has the right idea - your sciatic nerve runs from your lower back, through your buttocks, and down the back of your leg.  Especially with you standing and feeling the pain, my hunch is that.

Here's something to read about the sciatic nerve and sciatic pain - see if this stuff fits what you're feeling, then go see a doctor.
