Question:

Pain in my calfs/shins when running - don't think it's shin splits?!?

It's kinda hard to explain the pain. I went to the docs in like October as I had pain in my leg and he said he thought I had strained my ligaments but said it was okay to continue running and playing football etc and gave me 400mg of ibuprofen to take before and after exercise. I found the pain didn't lessen at all and got worse so I reduced the amount of exercise I did and I recovered during the Xmas hols. Now I have a new pain, I'm not sure if it's the same thing, it feels like a sharp pain in my calf when I put pressure on it and after running my shins are tender to touch. It also hurts when walking now a bit too, the pain is more prominent in my right calf than my left. What is it and how can I fix it? Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks!

  1. i would consider more xrays and an MRI

theres nothing more valuable then health...

  2. All 3 of the answers above me are good ones. Don't forget to stretch too. It'll make you relaz your muscles more. Go to the doctor and see if it's a stress fracture. They are very common among runners and if you don't get it checked out, you won't be able to run the rest of your life.

  3. Stress fractures?

  4. I would say buy some new running shoes and get arches for them.  Ice your shins after each time you excercise take ibuprofen. It could be shin splints and you stressed out your calves.
