  1. T.M.J. syndrome dislocation of tempural mandibular joint.

Easy for a dentist to check out no pain just a easy check.

Possibly even a E/R dr will do it in 5 minutes.

  2. It does sound like TMJ but could be from simple teeth grinding or clenching.  Don't bother with the ER or a dentist at this point.  First start with moist heat and advil a few times a day, gentle stretching, and avoid hard foods to chew like bagels and steak for a week or so.  Sleep on your back.  Be aware of stress and try relaxation exercises to help avoid clenching.  If the problem persists DO NOT see your regular dentist - they are not properly trained to treat TMJ no matter what people tell you.  In fact, my dentist made mine 10x worse, even though he thought he was helping!  Go to the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain to find a dentist/doctor who has had specialized training in this area (and forget oral surgeons too - all they want to do is surgery and TMJ surgery has an overwhelming failure rate).  To learn more about TMJ and to locate a specialist visit www.aacfp.org
