Ok. I was working out last week, and I felt a small pop in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen. It has gotten to the point that it hurts to work my stomach. Is this a torn muscle or do I need to head to the doctor?

  1. that happens to me every time i work out. it will go away after a while

  2. If it gets worse with exertion, chances are it is a torn muscle. But you should head to the doctor anyway, just to be on the safe side.

  3. I had this same pain. It turned out that I had air in my colon which perforated requiring emergency surgery. Do not ignore this pain. Go to doctor immediately. I waited 3 days. If I had gone in sooner, I may not have needed surgery.

  4. If you heard a 'pop' while you were exercising and now have pain, I would go to see your doctor about having an MRI done to find out if you didn't tear a muscle or detach a tendon or ligament. Things of this nature may or may not need surgery depending on the extent of the injury. Meanwhile, I would keep ice on it and rest. Wrap an ice pack in a towel and keep it on the injured area for 20 minutes, then take the ice off for 10 minutes and do that a couple of times in a row. That will help to reduce any inflammation you may have.
