Pain in the throat??

Question

I'm a singer, and I have been having these throat pains off and on for about a year now. (Like, 1 or 2 days a month on average)

It feels like the feeling you get when you are trying to hold back your tears, and you get all choked up....it kind of burns like that.

I'm wondering what it could be?

Do you think it's strained vocal chords or does this seem more serious?

Every time I look online, everyone tells me I have throat cancer, so I'm wondering what else it could be?
