About two years ago, I was very suicidal and O.D'd twice on paracetamol, I took about 70 the first time and just over 100 the second time (DONT DO IT IT HURTS). Since then whenever I take paracetamol I get the shakes REALLY bad, is this physical or more mental do you think? Is this even a possible reaction? I'm 16 btw and have no desire to do it again, just concerned for my health

  1. Hi Honey,

Paracetamol damages your liver when you OD. Hopefully they gave you something to counteract it at the hospital, and you are not so depressed now.

It's certainly hard to do away with yourself OD-ing on Paracetamol. The reaction you get now could be just a psychological one. Why not try Ibuprofen (Neurofen) instead? It's jolly safe as long as you don't have asthma. Read the box first !! But I'd check the shakes etc out with your Doctor next time you need to go. Remember to drink plenty of fluids too.

I am a Registered nurse - although this is not my field.

  2. Perhaps you should seek the advice of medical professional on this issue . Still taking pain killer after you have attempted suicide on 2 different occasions and you are having the shakes when you take them . Perhaps you are having withdrawal , and may be mental reaction or physical . By the sound of it , it appears that you have been on these for more then 2 years and may be longer . I don't agree with any pain killer but I am not in physical pain either and have no understanding of your situation as well  . If you are concerned with your health is there other solution that may be explored so that you get off this medication . I mean I would be more concerned with the long term effect of this drug on your system and explore other avenue . I wish you well and all the very best and good luck to you .
