Question:

Pain on my right side, near my kidney? Could it be caused by my diet coke addiction?

I drink between 2 and 4 litres a day.

If pain in the kidney or flank area is combined with fever, chills, nausea, or weakness it may be a sign of a kidney infection.  Often the pain is the first sign though.  Don't take any chances with kidney pain, kidney infections are serious and can cause you to be miserable.  Drinking any type of soda, caffeine, and alcohol are bad for the kidneys.  I had a kidney infection a month ago and noticed I had been drinking less water and more soda around that time.  It can be a contributing factor or make it worse.  Watch your pain and symptoms.  You can buy at home UTI test strips that will show if you have signs of a UTI/Kidney Infection at your local drug store.  They are call "AZO Urine Test Strips".  If the test is positive definitely go to the doctor.  Good luck.  

  3. Definitely... You probably have kidney stones... You need to cut way back on the soda... and if the pain doesn't go away, you need to see a doctor to be treated. It isn't a pleasant experience...
