I have this horrible pain on the right side of my chest only, and only when i breath in. Its almost unbearable. But, if i take really small, shallow breaths, it doesnt hurt as much. It hurts more when i am laying down too. This litereally came out of no where, i just woke up like this. Could i have pulled a muscle, would that cause this?

  1. Definitely sounds like a pulled muscle. Still, you should see your doctor just to make sure. In the meantime, don't stress over it.

  2. if pain is close to unbearable, you should always see a doctor

  3. costrochondritis....take some motrin, if you smoke stop and don't take deep breaths:) check out my blogpage for differential diagnosis of chest pain....www.journalofemergencynursing.bl... I hear this kind of problem nightly in the ED.

  4. I can give you alot of scenarios about what this may be BUT I am advising that you go see a doctor as soon as possible. Yes you could have pulled a muscle, it also could be a collapsed lung, not to make you overly concerned but I also had a patient that went to the doctors with a complaint that it felt like a bee was stinging her all the time in her rib cage, they paid no attention and come to find out she had lung cancer. I am not saying that this is what is wrong I am simply saying this is why you must go see a doctor

  5. There are lots of muscles that move when you breathe and it sounds like you have slept badly and injured one. Perhaps the diaphram (the main muscle that pull down to suck air into your lungs and releases to breathe out) has been strained. I suggest seeing a doctor if the problem persists!

  6. It sounds like pleurisy. Sometimes the lining of the lungs, (the pleura) can become inflammed and it can be painful to breathe. It also could be pneumonia, or you could have ruptured an air sac which has the potential to be dangerous.

I do think you need to see a doctor, especially if you're experiencing difficult breathing or if the pain is persisting. They will need to get an xray to see what is going on.
