Yesterday I had to go to the dentist for root canal work on two teeth. I had a cyst appear in the gum about three weeks ago and he had given me anti biotics. He said two teeth need root work, and the hospital to have the cyst removed. He said he would have to do the teeth first or the hospital would just remove the teeth along with the cyst.
I was given a local anesthetic injection in my gum, which felt like it had numbed it but when he drilled in the nerve was still live and I nearly shot through the ceiling with pain. He had to inject more anesthetic straight in to the tooth nerve, and the same with the second tooth as well.
It wasn't a very pleasant experience. He did say sorry and explained that because of the infection it had blocked the anesthetic. He didn't tell me at the start because it would have caused distress, which I can understand.
I have to go back next week to have the work finished, he's cleaned the root and put in tempory fillings. He assured me I wouldn't feel any pain when he goes in to the teeth again next time though but I am a bit scared now. It is the first time I've ever felt any pain from dental work though.
