I got the flu (started 7/26), it started with a sore throat. I am fine now, it ran its course but the sore throat stil remains. The productive cough is gone. But it is still very painful to swallow any food/drink. I have been drinking hot teas, coffee, soups... no ice cream or anything cold. I have tried advil, tylenol but nothing helps. Any ideas here??

  1. The ice cream may numb your throat..you should try that.  That was the best thing when I had my tonsils removed.  You could try rinsing with salt and warm water but it only lasts temporarily.  I use to swear by the throat sprays.

  2. did you check with your doctor if it's a Strep Throat? you dont have to have cold symptom to feel this pain.  Antibiotics can be the only remedy for your help.

    PS, Strep Throat is Contagious.

  3. Go to the doctor. I went and had the most painful sore throat imaginable.  They gave me a syrup with codeine and it cleared it right up, almost immediately.  Plus, i was able to sleep.
