Question:

Painless bump on inner lip?

I've had this for about month. It's about the size of a small pea, inside my lip (when I pull it down), and it's painless. It sometimes goes up and down a little in size. My dad looked at it with a flashlight and it looks like it has a dark center. He encouraged me to get it looked at. What would be your first impression of what it might be? Would it be my dentist who would need to look at this first? I asked me dad if it may be herpes, and he said no, that herpes sores/bumps would hurt.

  1. THIS SOINDS LIKE A BENIGN FIBROMA WHICH TENDS TO HAPPEN IF YOU HABITUALLY BITE YOUR LIP.IF THIS HAPPENS AT NIGHT THEN YOU MAY BE UNAWARE OF IT.

  2. It could be a clogged saliva duct. They usually go away on there own, but if it gets bigger, you need to go to an Oral Surg. to look at it.

  3. I am not sure of what the dark center you talking about but if you have a habit of biting your lips.. this could be a mucocele.. which is due to saliva ingestion onto superficial tissues.. A dentist will be able to help . It woudnnt be Herpes as that would hurt.. A mucocele is harmless unless it is for a long period and has turnd into a bigger swelling.. and the mucocele is usually transparent . Take care !

  4. you can see a regular doctor for this issue.  it could be herpes, or a hpv infection.  best bet for a proper diagnosis is going to the doctor =)
