A family member has a 1998 Dodge, and the clear coat is rotting, and the paint is peeling. The car only has 30,000 miles and is always in a garage. Has anyone heard of this happening?

  1. http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files...   my 2002 hasn't had any probs yet so they must have changed the formula after 1998 but I hear some 2007s where having problems also.. hope thid helps..

  2. i remember chevy/GM cars from 1980s early 1990s doing it...they switched over to low vapor less polluting paints and did a crappy job...sorry for your loss

  3. Vehicle is still 10 years old they don't stay nice forever...

  4. YES!! I have heard of this. Dodge had a problem with the paint and clear coat that they used during the 90's, as well as early 2000. The problem is, you HAVE to paint the entire car, or else the other part will eventually rot as well. The second part to this is that most cars with this problem are no longer under warranty, so you will have to pay out of pocket, as insurance does not cover this as well. Most cars can run between 2,000 and 5,000 to re-paint, depending on the make of the car. This is a well known problem with Dodge, and they are not willing to make any "good will" exceptions, seeing as so many people have this problem.

  5. yes a lot of the dodges are doing that, they have always had problems with certain colors doing this, but there's no warranty or recalls on any of them for this, none that i know of ,and especially on a ten year old vehicle,my truck is doing it also and its a 2001 model,it,s the clear coat that's coming off of it,the only thing you can do in a case like this is have it redone, good luck.
