Question:

Paint a refrigerator?

We're moving into a new house, and our beige refrigerator won't match the white appliances in the house, so we're going to paint it white.

I'm not looking for answers like, "Yes, it can be done." because I know it can. I'm also aware that there is appliance paint available.

My question is: Are there any particular techniques needed to paint this? Like, any type of stroke of the brush/paint can that makes it come out better? How long does the paint need to dry between coats? And how long does it need to dry before it can be used?

Any helpful tips and/or links to websites are welcome! Thank you!

  1. Paint with the texture of the fridge.

Any Paint store will furthure explian

    the whole process of this.

  2. I did this a few yers ago,and the best advice I can give is follow the directions EXACTLY,and please make sure you clean the fridge real good with a denatured alcohol, and if there are any nicks, fill em in with an epoxy and dont sand it..

  3. Call a Home improvement store! Im almost positive they make special paint for refridgrators but they make this really cool one that is like chalk board paint, and it turns your fridge, or part of it into a chalk board!, Great for little memos and for the kids! Also the f\drying and painting would be just like all other painting of things, but read the directions and you should be all set!!! good luck with the new house

  4. i would not use a paint brush buy cans of spray paint (enamel) instead

  5. I would call the Home Depot store OR Menards or if you have a Lowe's they are very experienced in the way to do this project... get it from the professionals... now, go call!

  6. well I'd spray paint it if I were to do it, but otherwise, a roller would leave a better finish than a brush. Also, I would sand it to break the original gloss. be sure that it is completely clean.

  7. We did ours with a sray paint in hammercoat silver. Turned out awesome. Just tape up handles and stuff and spray paint from one side to the other.

Try have the can a fair distance away to stop runs and coat evenly and not to much in same spot or you'll get runs again. Buy some primer and cover the fridge in that first. Let dry, spray on color about  4 coats and once thats dry clear coat if you want otherwise just leave it with a matte finish.

  8. 1st clean with a good cleaning product. your best bet is spraying it so there isn't any brush or roller marks. if you want an extra durable finish use an epoxy product

  9. The first thing is make sure the fridge is clean, then go over it with a 100 to 120 grit sandpaper. don't go nuts with it, just a quick scuff will do. that way the paint will have a profile to stick to. i wouldn'tt brush or roll a fridge b/c you will probably have too thick of a coat on it and leave laplines or brush marks. i would spray it. if you can use a HVLP gun that will give the best finish. if you can't do that then get a waterbased epoxy to give durability, and add a little floetrol or penetrol to help it lay down better. it will depend on the paint you get for dry times and/or recoat times. good luck!

  10. You can get Appliance Paint from Home Depot, Ace hardware and maybe the auto parts store if they have a paint section. It comes in a can and sprays on. As far as technique, I would try to find another appliance (junk) and practice so you see what works best.

Some people say painting after the dew settles in the morning is best since that is when most of the dust is out of the air....

    Good luck!
