Paint a vehicle, do it yourself ?

Are there some basics or tips. I would like to prep this Astrovan as much as i can. So what grit sandpaper should be the last, and then can i use a primer from a can for the areas that were sanded, it wasn't the whole van.

if I can find a shop that will give me a deal after i do all the prep and masking that might be an option....but i really want to learn and DIY.

Are there tips on using a garage, like cover in plastic. Is there a preferd paint that drys on contact or a way to deal w/ dust and debris ?

You need to go to a school or work with someone who paints cars. There is way too much to learn by yourself. You also need a lot of equipment to do a quality job.
