I have a door frame to paint and the paint finish has a few large air-pockets in it. I suspect the whole upright may need replaced in the next few years so I don't want to waste too much time on it. What should I do? I was thinking of leaving it and painting over or scraping the worst of with a stripping knife and sanding down. (I have already had to do a wet rot repair on the whole of the bottom of the wood)

  1. If you are going to replace it later, just paint over it.Most of the time that happens when oil base paint was used on damp wood.Unless you want a big job of stripping, leave it alone. 8/3

  2. stir it

  3. I'm not sure what your talking about as for air pocket? Are there bubbles on the door jamb? If there are what you want to do is scrape them off, and remove any loose paint. after take and sand the jamb real good then you can prime and paint. now you also said there was rot at the bottom and it was wet? You may have to replace the jamb, and find out where the water is coming in. cause if your getting water this will keep being a problem.

  4. use a paint stripper and remove all of the old paint sand it down and start over

  5. you will get air pocket in it if you used gloss on it, if the wood is damp with what you say just pop them with a needle.

  6. Try popping it with a pin / syringe. Squirt some adhesive in it and force the air out.
