Safely...use paint stripper; it won't damage the face of the brick like mechanical methods will.

paint is usually removed from masonry by sandblasting.

If the paint is cracking and peeling already, a pressure washer will be the easiest. You may be able to rent one somewhere where you live. Check the yellow pages.
