Question:

Paint on windows?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I just moved recently and for some odd reason the people in that used to live in my new house painted some of the windows.

We've tried scraping it off but thats not working too well.

Are there any products that would help get the paint off easily?

  1. Lacqer thinner will work well..but wear SOLVENT RESISTANT gloves and open all windows..It WILL burn your skin if not used to it and blister..it is not as messy as paint stripper for you do not have to layer it on the surface and let it stand for a length of time..Simply soak and wring a rag out to where it is like damp and not running off of it and rub over the paint ..it will start taking it off as you rub,...You will go through alot of rags ..concentrate on getting the bulk of paint off of all the panes first and try to make each one "sparkle as you go"....then come back once the bulk is off and fine tune them with fresh clean rags..Keep in mind..any wood areas next to the panes will blister up if you get it all over them..you can put the painters blue tape over the wood to do this and prevent it..

  2. try paint remover

  3. You can try paint/furniture  stripper but it will make a huge mess and it's bad for your skin so wear heavy gloves. I'd go to home depot and ask their advice.

  4. paint remover will be very messy.  try scraping with the blade out of a utility knife, or something sharp like that

  5. is it on the window frame or the glass? if it's on the glass, the best route is to get a good flat blade razor and scrape it off. if it's on the wood, try a paint stripper. (obviously, follow all the directions on the stripper container.) you can also ask the folks in the paint departments at home depot, lowe's, menard's, or a local hardware store (do it best, ace, etc.), they may have some other ideas for you. good luck

  6. "Goof Off".  Paint stores and lumber yards usually have it.  It has a very strong odor so be sure you are in a well ventilated area.  Rubber gloves if your hands are sensitive to harsh chemicals.  I wouldn't use a flat razor blade because it's too easy to scratch the glass.
