What in your opinion would be the easiest of these two to do, as I am decorating my new flat and am not that great at this sort of thing just wondering which would be easiest to do, thanks.

  1. New fresh wall paper is always better,

harder ? yes but far better, only trouble

is i`m getting to old to do both, always

falling of the bloody step ladder.

  2. paint! PAINT! paint!

    wallpaper needs adhesives and squigees.

paint can be bought in kits with everything. and its easy.

wallpaper is also a ***** to remove for future renovations.

  3. I think you should paint them. It looks better and I think it's easier. All you have to do is paint, with wall paper you have to wet it down and stick it and sometimes you can get bubbles. With painting it's easier to change if you get bored.

  4. Paint.

because Wallpaper takes a lot of time. and buying the glue.

and paint you can change it in case you don't like it.

And wallpaper you have to take it off.

and sometimes the paper remains on the wall.

    so paint would be better.

  5. Painting is the modern way.

  6. Depends on how good the walls are. If they are really rough then every lump will show up if you paint them so patternd wallpaper would look better. If the walls are smooth then paint is ok.

  7. Paint but only if the walls are in really good condition. If they are not then a heavy paper can cover up any blemishes.

  8. paint is much easier tearing down wallpaper is horrible

  9. its easier to paint the walls because if you use wallpaper, when you want to paint over the walls you just paint, but with wallpaper you have to take all the wallpaper down :]

  10. Paint is easier if the walls are smooth.  If you don't want to re-plaster uneven walls then wallpaper is easier.

Is very popular to paint 3 walls in a room and then paper the 4th wall with a dramatic paper to create a designer look.

  11. Use a good quality matt emulsion paint such as Dulux, Crown as it will cover best. Cut in around all the edges, internal corners and switches with a small brush first, say 1.5 inch then use a roller. You get a superior finish with a roller, and it's quicker with less effort. Don't roll too fast or you will paint your hand and wrist! You can change your colour scheme easily with paint, wallpaper is expensive, a pain to apply and remove, and smells!

  12. definitely paint.

  13. Paint - BUT - you have to make sure you can paint straight, or buy lots of masking tape.

  14. Depends on the condition of the wall, if they are in a smooth state then painting is the way. Paper only if they are a bit rough.

  15. paint easy and less hassle

  16. painting is more easier than wallpapering

  17. Painting is by far easier.

Wall paper is hard to do and easy to mess up.

A compromise is to use lining paper and then paint on top of that.

That helps with lumps and bumps.

    Paint is much cheaper too.

  18. It depends as if u want to wall paper and there is already wall paper on the walls u will have 2 strip the wallpaper off first then re-wallpaper. But if u r goin to paint the walls u will have to see what the walls r like as if they not the best u will have to spend money re plastering them. but also with painting you could just paint over the old wall paper. Btw painting is more messy as you got 2 cover everything up but wallpapering takes more time

  19. Definitely paint! Painting with someone can be so much fun, too! Wallpaper is messy and I hate tearing it off or spending hours trying to rip it off, piece by piece. Painting is a little more practical and choosing the colours is so much fun! Have fun in your new flat!

  20. Wall papering is relatively easy and hides a multitude of sins.

However if the current decor is a paint finish in reasonable condition painting isn't too hard either.

Basically if you currently have wallpaper or poor quality paint finish then I would recommend wallpapering.

    :)

  21. Paint the walls so much easier and i know because i've just decorated my sons room in our new home and i've never painted or decorated in my life. It's very easy and even fun to do and as long as you take your time and think about protecting all the  furniture and fittings and floor with plastic sheeting and old newspaper under the paint pot to catch wayward drips and maybe have a damp sponge ready to wipe over any bits like door frame that you accidently splash  you'll be fine. Happy decorating and afterwards you'll be able to sit back and relax and think i did all that.

  22. If the walls are in good condition then emulsion paint will be fine. If the walls are not in a good state you will need to wallpaper.

You will probably scream now - if you want to do the job properly if the walls have existing wallpaper on them, then that should come off first, irrespective of whether you paint or re-wallpaper. That should keep you busy until ummm Christmas! Good Luck.

  23. I think painting. Its less fiddly and easier to do! Plus i just think painting is more fun :D

Hope it helps, have fun! x

  24. I'm an ex painter and decorator unlike the previous 22 answerers so far, that's not to say that my opinion is going to be that much better as it's your choice.

Certainly paint is easier, especially if the walls are in extremely good condition, buy a good quality roller from your local DIY store and a 2" brush for cutting in, don't worry too much about getting the lines straight you can always wipe the emulsion off with a damp cloth.

Paint one wall at a time, using the brush first, paint a border around the whole wall, ceiling, skirting and corners, leaving a rough edge on the inside, then paint the wall with the roller, overlapping the previously painted borders.

As in all decoration, good preparation is vital, sanding down the walls and using a first dilute coat if there is a great colour change or the walls are newly plastered, also take out as much furniture as possible and cover any that's left and the carpet, you'll be surprised where splashes can get to.

All good DIY stores will also have free tips on decorating if you haven't done it before.

Now to papering, it is  harder but in my opinion gives a better result, especially if the walls are not perfect, I like using anaglypta paper, it's easy to hang, easy to match if you get the right pattern, and you can then paint that it whichever colour you choose, and then in the future if youwant a change, just paint over in a new colour.

As you like cats, I though you might like to see my new kitten Frankie, we've only had him a few weeks and he has settled down ver well with our two labradors.
