  1. You should buy it because you do need it. I suggest going to your nearest shop or field and asking them about it and usually if there nice then they will give you a demonstration of how to lube your gun and what king of lube you need. That's what I did. Just make sure to bring the gun when you come.

  2. depends on the gun. If its a higher end one then yes, if it was 30 bucks from walmart I wouldnt worry bout it much. Apply it to all the    o-rings in the marker, slightly lubricate the bolt, u dont want it dripping all over the place. U can also drop a few drops into the hole where the air goes in, then fire the marker a few times and this will lubricate it alil more.

It keeps the rings nice and moist, so they dont dry out and cause air leaks, as well as it helps cut down on friction and wear due to metal on rubber/metal contact. I clean and lubricate my marker after evrytime I play.

  3. Yes.  All paintball guns need some level of routine maintenance, the most common being a simple cleaning & re-lubing.

Make sure you buy the proper lube. Some guns use a type of oil, others use a type of grease.  Where to apply depends but usually just applying to o-rings works.  Consult the manual or if you don't have one, google it.
