i started from the bottom, and with a lot of energy, clearly too many brush strokes, (it's my first paint job) when i finally got to the top and was applying the paint more evenly i realized the color variation, and the top portion is the color i'm going for.

is there anyway to thin out or ligthen the bottom half?

  1. I paint, EVERY day of my life and I am baffled a bit by the fact that you used a brush for painting a wall.

It sounds like the paint wasn't mixed well initially, and you may not have re-mixed it when you brought it home.

Certainly the coverage is at issue as well, but I'm still wondering why didn't you cut and roll, or why not ask  before the fact?

The good news, albeit now with more expense, is that PAINT can be painted over. You need to get the proper equipment, have the tint mixed well, and brush cut then roll the walls.

    Just my two "sense"

  2. If I have multiple cans of paint for the same room I always mix the paint from each bucket into a separate container and use that to paint from, That way all the paint will be the same color. It's hard to get 3 cans of paint to match exactly. As far as fixing it just repaint over it using a roller, It will not take as much paint as before. Not like the guy above me I hope this answer wasn't in the smart a$$ variety.

Also take in the fact that the lighting may effect the looks of yout paint since the lights are closer to the top..

If you used  just one can of paint you just didn't mix it well enough when you got home.

  3. I would suggest priming the wall before you paint over it again.  Since it is uneven your next paint job may be uneven as well if you don't.  I believe primer is fairly cheap and just a quick coat is probably all you'll need.  This could've possibly been your problem in the first place.  Were there two different colors on the original wall?
