I bought a hermit crab in Galveston when I was there on vacation. I didn't know that painted shells were bed for them, so I bought one that was painted. I won't be able to go to the store until the day after tomorrow, so will he be okay until then?

Also, where can I buy a natural shell? Do they have them at PetSmart?

  1. You can get natural shells cheaply at craft shops. Make sure you boil all shells prior to use.

Take the extra painted shells out. The crabs will survive a day or two with out extra shells.

  2. My hermit crabs always had painted shells they lived for a while. It can't be that bad for them.

  3. I have 2 hermit crab, they are both in painted shells, they have natural ones to move into. I have had them for about 4 months. One cant even fit in his shell, not even close. the little one still has room to grow in it. They both havent changed shells yet.But even if you run out and get new shells this minute, it might be months before they decide its time to change shells.

  4. I have hermit crabs and they have moved into the painted shells. if u really want a natural shell....u can get packs of small meidium and large at petsmart or petco. hope this helps!

  5. yeah it's fine for a day or so and you can find shells at a  basic pet store

  6. Painted shells are fine, we have a bunch of hermits half are painted still alive and climbing! Don't sweat it :)
