Question:

Painters' trick -- oil or latex?

I remember an old painter's trick. If you were at a job and nobody was home, you could put a paint roller in the freezer, and it wouldn't dry up.

Was this oil or latex?

  1. What I do is wash out my latex rollers. If I want my oil based brushes to stay soft I let them sit in a bucket of water. Never heard of putting brushes in a freezer.

  2. if you wrap it in a plastic bag you can do it the freeezer is not even really necessay I've never tried it with oil but it it works with latex

  3. I think it will work for both types of paint.  You just have to squeeze the plastic hard onto the wet roller to get as much air out as possible.  I have done both types of paint putting into ref not freezer for as long as a couple of days without significant drying out of the paint.  Have also gone a day or so without putting it into the ref, but made sure the ends of the roller were really well sealed, using twist ties.  I would avoid freezing--I think it could change the texture of what paint is left on the roller.

  4. i wrap my rollers and brushes in plastic grocery bags and put them in the fridge, but I've never heard of keeping them in the freezer.
