Question:

Painting a 14" Puffer Sailboat - Tips & Advice?

Hi,

I am planning on spending about 4 hours (or more if needed) painting a 14" puffer sailboat. It was given to me, and is in OK condition. It needs a good cleaning, some new rope, and some minor repair work.

There is a small gash in the gunwale (on the bottom ridge) and I am not sure how to repair it. I've read epoxy, but I'm not certain that's what I would use in this instance.

Also, I'm not sure what part of the boat to paint when I do paint it. Should I take the hiking straps, blocks, etc. out and paint the inside as well? or should I just paint the hull? Should I paint above the water line and use a different paint for the keel?

Thanks in advance for any replys!

Best,

Addison

I'd paint mine like these in the photos.  Paint the outside this year and paint the inside next year.  You shouldn't need a different paint for the bottom.  That's for boats that stay in the water all the time to keep things from growing on them.  I would take all the stuff off so that you could do a better job painting.
