Question:

Painting a CB radio antenna?

I want to repaint my CB radio antenna because it's got peeling back paint already on it from the factory.

If I repaint it with just a simple metal chrome paint will it effect the antenna's performance?

  1. OEM coatings are designed specifically for reception not reflection.  Your best bet is to replace shaft only if screwed into base. You could try non-reflective rubber tape that's available at electronic supply store. The savings by paint isn't worth loss of signal quality....especially when you break down and need help.  Good Luck !!

  2. yeah, that is a bad idea.  it will deffinitally harm your performance. it might look cool, but i know i wouldent want to sacrifice performance.    And dont you think the paint would chip in no time?

  3. I have seen many things change the SWR (standing wave ratio) of CB antenna systems. Things like wrapping a fiberglass whip with electrical tape or tying a ribbon around the whip. If this is a stainless steel whip, I would think that a metallic paint would have more affect than non metallic.

Whichever you choose to use, I would suggest you check the SWR and adjust the antenna if needed.

  4. it shouldn't

  5. Not much if any at all
