Painting a wave-runner?

i have a old wave-runner i love. i have sanded it down and refibered it and sanded it down with 120 grit. what is the best paint and way and sould i use filler primer on it. and what tipe paint. this is a wave-ruuner

  1. You will need to decide to spray or brush the paint.

    Either way a good clean surface and a primer that matches the finish paint is important.   A good two part epoxy paint like Interlux's Perfection is easy to use and produces a great looking finish.

  2. I paint them all the time using acrylic enamel automotive paints. I use lacquer primer/surfacers and hardener in the top coat.

    If the base surface is in good shape, I don't use any primer, just wet sand real well with 320 grit and shoot the top coat. I have used a base/clear system on a couple of skis. It is a bit quicker to tape off and add more color such as for flames.

    You could actually get a decent finish with spray cans if you wish. Remember though, after a nice paint job, that first scratch is gonna make you want to cry, cuss, or kick something!
