Painting an old house inside, never done it before, what can I expect to pay a professional

painter? this is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom, dining room etc in Central Coast of California. Thanks for your help!

  1. For your location, you'll pay higher than other locations.  Be sure and get estimates from several different painters with a DETAILED list of what they will/won't do.  If you have existing flooring that you will be keeping (carpet, hardwood, whatever) then be sure & insist they NOT use a spraygun unless the home will be completely empty and they have a good track record.  Most hacks with a sprayer are just that - they'll blow anything that gets in their way full of paint (outlets, baseboards, etc. etc.) & you won't be happy.  Just something to think about. It'll be over a grand for sure.


  2. I think you should paint it yourself...Home Depot will give you all the information you need. A professional will cost to much. I painted my kitchen and living room and two bathrooms and it was not hard at all. I did sponge texture in the bathroom and it was nice...
