I want to paint a small table and dresser for use in my son's nursery. The paint I want to use is flat finish. Do I need to put a finishing coat after painting to protect the paint and furniture?

  1. Semi-gloss or High-gloss paint is what is usually used on furniture. That makes it relatively resistent to spills, smudges, and small knicks.

If for some reason you must use the flat paint, you can put a coat of clear polyetheline over it.

I would just use a Semi-gloss enamel, and be done with it. 7/29

  2. Painting furniture you should use and alkyd primer and paint (oil based).  Or you can also use a alkyd glaze.  Make sure you fine sand between coats.  Check Benjamin Moore Website to see more info.  Use a semi gloss finish, this will give you a harder finish, which will not shine to much.  Plus the finish will look smoother and not have a lot of brush marks.  Good luck.
