Question:

Painting metal tv trays?

I just "recovered" a set of vintage metal tv trays from a neighbor's trash. They are in great shape but covered in a fine rust making them very rough. How do you recommend that I paint them to make them usable. I am not restoring them to sell, only to use.

  1. Hello, lightly sanding the rust with a fine grit paper is the first step, after that wash them with soap and water and maybe a scotch-brite scrupper. You want to make sure all the loose metal you just sanded is gone, then take some paper towels and completely dry all sides of the tray. The best paint I have found for metal is  Rust-o-leum, and the spray cans semm to work best for me but use what is most comfortable for you just remember it is better to put on many light coats of paint than one or two thick ones. Once the paint fully cures the finish will last quite a while.Hope this helps.
