Painting my acoustic?

Question

I want to paint my acoustic guitar, but only on the side opposite the sound hole (the back).

Is this gonna drastically effect the acoustics, and if so, how?

I'm gonna paint designs and stuff, so there may be uneven layers of paint on it.

If you have any tips and processes on how to do it, please let me know.

If you have any other info, please let me know, I'm flying blind.
