Painting my bedroom? Tell me what you think of this idea?

Hi everybody.

I'm redoing my bedroom and decided on blue as a color. It's an ocean/beach/seashell-like theme. My comforter is blue with dolphins on it. A few co-workers suggested that I paint the main wall in my bedroom (the wall behind the head of my bed) a dark blue and the other walls a lighter blue (all from the same trio). I've never really heard of that idea before but I think it sounds pretty cool. What do you think?

  1. split the wall in half upper half lite blue and lower half the dark blue. AND on the wall behind your bed put a big ocean sence photo in the center above your bed. On other ways have smaller ocean pics. All in the same color frame. Like silver or wood. Have pillow shames in a water fabric(looks like water) and have the blankets bring in a sand color(your throw blankets) have shells and sand in a jar on the night stands.

  2. Accent walls are so NOT out! I love the idea of accent walls...in my current bedroom, the wall behind my head board is a dark green, like a hunter green, the rest of the walls (and the ceiling) are all done in an ivy green. The colors work really well together. As for your blues, I would go for it IF that's what you'd like to do.

I don't know that I like it for a sea themed bedroom so much though. I would stick with a light sea green for that and use white as an accent color in the room plus use sea shells for decorative purposes too.

    Good luck!

  3. Don't do "accent" walls, those are out. In my opinion they were never really "in". I say paint a strip of flowing blue paint around the room. Or just a blue will be fine. It also depends how old you are, you wan to make sure it is age appropriate. Here are some sites for help:

  4. hi..why don't you paint the top in the lighter blues, resembling a sky and about 3 feet from the bottom of the wall apply the darker blue and make this look like the water..rather than doing a straight line, use a marker pen and draw a wavy pattern and it will resemble the sea..i did this once in a child's bedroom and it looked fab..you can get adhesive stickers these days that you can put on the wall, in the shape of fish, birds etc..

this way you can build up a seaside theme..it looks brilliant..

blue is a funny colour to use, especially if you use a dark blue to paint one whole wall, it tends to make the room oppressive feeling..if you want to do this ,stick with a meduim spectrum blue, do not go to dark..

i used to paint murals for people and it does make a room feel welcoming.. never be afraid to experiment with colour, you can always cover it over.. good luck and most of all have loads of fun doing it..x*x

  5. i think it sounds awesome ! I'm a painter and I'v done it, and seen it done before...(in many other colors) and it looks great ! trust me!

With the colors you are doing, I would pair crisp bright white accessories, such as making sure your trim is white, and white curtains... too much blue would make it look too harsh.. but with some white detailing...it will look amazing.

Unfortunatly I cannot find a picture of a room with that darker blue accent wall to give you an idea, but here are some awesome sea blues paired with white etc...

It will look great! good luck and have fun

*~ To your cream question... YEAH It'll look great still :) (I initially said bright white as that's my personal preference... bolder) BUT... it will give it a soft pretty look with cream as well... As long as your blue isn't insanely bright... then it will look excellent... See these new pics.. of blue with cream trim... It will still look good  :D

These pictures aren't ideal..haha.. but they show how the colors go together well. Blues with beigy, sandy, /off white colors. :D

I really think it would look great :D
