I have the west and north sides of my house to paint this next weekend. It is going to be hot on these days say 102 degrees F. Is is safe to paint in the morning before the hot sun hits it? I mean with sitting in that hot sun later in the day hurt the paint?

  1. Early in the morning would be great for painting before it gets too hot, paint the north after you do the west, and No the high temp will not hurt the paint. It will make it hard to paint when it gets hot because the paint will dry faster and you can't keep working from the wet edge to make the paint go on evenly.

  2. Latex paint ? No it will not.

If it gets to hard? Add water.  It's only latex.

But for your safety paint when it's coolest and please keep hydrated.

  3. If you start really early in the morning, like around 6 or 7 am, you should be able to get these two sides painted this weekend no problem.  If it were me, I'd take one side to do each day, so it's not overwhelming.  Starting that early will help you with two things - number one, you're not painting a side of your house that gets direct sunlight first thing in the morning, so you'll spend more time working in the shade (which will be safer for your body).  Number two, the paint should have enough time to dry before it gets ridiculously hot.  I don't think sitting in the hot sun will hurt the paint, especially if it's mostly dry by the time the sun hits that side of the house.

You also could try praying for clouds (not rain, just clouds) or a break in the heat.

Good luck, be safe, and hopefully your house will turn out looking great.

  4. I don't see any problems with high heat, just problems with lower temperature.  http://www.doityourself.com/stry/paintte...

  5. how about at night

  6. Try it, but if you find that the paint is bubbling or otherwise not sticking, then wait for a more moderate day.

  7. you should use acri flat paint and put some water proofing in it.  it will last longer.

before you paint it you might want to water down and wash the sides you are painting just so when you paint the house you don't have all the loose trash and what not in fresh paint.

and it is completely safe my dad has his own painting business and he's been doing a lot of exteriors lately and we live in las vegas where it's 110 degrees plus.

the heat will actually help dry the paint faster it shouldnt harm it in anyway.

i would suggest dunn edwards, frazee, or sherwin williams paints. for one they are better products than home depot and lowes.

  8. There is no problem with painting in the morning before the sun hits.  I think that it will acutally be better because if you paint in the evening then you run the chance of it not drying at a good speed because f the dew at night.
