Question:

Painting my room, what colours go in bedrooms?

I want to decorate my room but cant decide what colours to go for. I was thinking a really dark red/wine on one wall and the rest cream, or pink and lilac, or nice dark green and a really pale green. Any suggestions as to what 2 colours really go well in a girls bedroom without making it too cold or too dark?

  1. go with bright colors so your room will 1. look cute to you 2. appear to be bigger

  2. Summer colors like lime green or sunny yellow.

  3. Why do you want to paint one wall a darker color and the others lighter?  Are you trying to make one wall look farther away?  Dark colors can look very chic and expensive if they're done right.  They can also be very overpowering and depressing, and look really tacky if done wrong.  If you go with a dark color, get a flat or eggshell finish.  Shiny finishes with dark paint will look tacky.  When you decide what colors you want, pick the next lightest one on the color chip.  When the paint dries it will darken.

There are lots of other ways to use two colors.  Like one color on the walls with lighter color for the trim.  Another really cool look is to paint a stripe around the room, about a foot down from the ceiling in a lighter shade than the walls.

You can pick whatever your favorite color is.  Any color will do.

Interesting color combinations that are in right now are:

    1. really bright light green (like neon green) with a medium to light shade of purple.

    2. Bright pink, orange and yellow.

    3. Baby blue and yellow.

Take a look through some magazines or catalogs, or on-line like at domestications.com or JCPenney.com for room ideas.  Print out what you like, put them in a little book, then look at them and see what they all have in common.  That's what you'll like.  Also, go to the paint store, take some samples and go home with them.  They have paint swatches with coordinating colors. Look at them in your room and see which you like best.  Check them out in the daytime and at night because the colors will look different.

You're going to have fun with this!

    Good luck!

  4. if you have a small room, paint it in dark colour may be not such a good idea because it makes the room look smaller. pale brown or ivory with umber will look nice and calming.

  5. I think in a bedroom you need colors that are calming.  Go to Lowe's, Home Depot, or some place that sales paint.  Get a bunch of different color cards that you like.  Take them to your room and try this in the daylight hours, hold the colors up to your walls and decide.  Also there is a great place online that you can chose different colors, put them in a room of choice and see what the colors look like together.  It really helps, I used it when I painted my downstairs, and love my choices.  The web page is www.valsparatlowes.com/painter.  Hope this helps...
