Painting outside fence?

I'm thinking about painting my wooden fence. I've never done anything outdoors like this before. Do I need to prime it first? If so, is there a difference in indoor/outdoor primer?

If you're painting it, you need to prime it; inside and outside stains are the same. Make sure that it's clean and dry before painting it, as well.

But, and this is just my two cents, I'd consider using stain rather than paint. (if the fence has never been painted before, that is) That way, when it needs to be redone, you won't have to scrape off the old, peeling paint. Take it from a girl who spent last weekend scraping peeling white paint off her garage.
