I have a wall in my bedroom with splattered paint on it. The paint is thick and like drips down. Therefore it is like 3d. How do i repaint the wall without the splatter texture going through?

  1. You could use a puddy knife and scrape them off.If the paint is well dry sand it down. When you use the roller to paint do not dip it too much.Remove excess paint by rolling the roller in your paint tray. You should always put two coats.Don't be lazy and try to get away with only one coat with a roller that is drenched in paint. This is what people usually do and then they have splatter drops from uneven rolling. My way takes a little longer but leaves a nice clean even surface.I paint professionally and always go two coats at least, unless i'm using the same colour that's on the wall already.

  2. You can take a wet rag and try to rub out the drips. If that doesn't work. Get some 80 or 100 grit sandpaper and gently sand them out. If you don't have success with that try to scrap the drips off with a scrapper then skim coat the areas with drywall compound. If you cant scrap the drips off because they are to flat then skim coat over them with drywall compound then lightly sand. Prime the areas you patched and prime them with a flat latex primer. The paint splatter has to be fixed before you can go on to painting the walls because it will keep showing through despite the number of coats you put over it. EDIT: If the splatters are there on purpose then its more and likely an aesthetic effect called Knock down or Fog. The only way to remedy this is to get some drywall compound preferably a 5 gal container and skim coat the entire wall(s) until you have a smooth finish. This may take a couple of coats. You will need a wide mud knife also. Then sand down and Prime/paint. You might want to leave the walls as they are because this can be a messy job and if you don't have a lot of experience in doing this It can be difficult in making it look right.

  3. Before you repaint, you'll have to sand those drip areas down because they will just keep showing through!  Been there ... got the T-shirt!

    Good Luck!
