We have a wooden door to paint. It is already painted white, and we want to paint it lemon coloured.

Can we just paint over the white?

And is there any good way we can paint so it's nice and smooth?

  1. rub it down white undercoat then gloss it up , easy.

  2. These have great tips to help you.

    Found doing a Google search

  3. sand it then paint over

  4. Use one of those abrasive sponges and sugar soap. Use the recommended undercoat for the lemon. Use satin top coat with vertical strokes only to finish and it will be ok. Gloss shows brush strokes more than satin or matt.

  5. Give the door a good wash down with sugar soap. Then give a  light sanding and wash down again. Undercoat then gloss you will  then have a nice finish.

  6. yes u can,rub down with fine sandpaper and paint with dulux one coat.

  7. It's best if you sand the door down then wipe it  with sugar soap, then undercoat.Leave it to total dry then use a Matt or Satin finish they show up less brush marks than a Gloss.

  8. Interior or exterior?Where do you live ,bad weather? More details and you could get a more concise answer. Doors take a hammering,so it`s worth taking the trouble to do the work to the highest spec.,and you wont have to touch them for years. I like to take exterior doors off and do all the work over the whole door,so that all exposed areas are covered, (tops, bottoms ) .Loads of info, ask again with more details
