Question:

Painting the inside of a small house?

I have a 1400 sq ft home. The front entrance leads to the living room then straight through to the kitchen. Do I paint these two rooms the same color or different?

Should I paint the ceilings or just the walls?

Thanks!

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

Any time there is a corner is an opportunity to change color. Check out these examples:

And I think painting the ceiling can add a lot of dimension to a room. Check out the chocolate brown on the ceiling of this room:

  2. Yes, go with two colors. You can have the paint tinted or lightend. Lighten the paint for the ceilings and maybe have the same paint tinted for the walls. This way looks more custom without the expense of buying seperate paint.

  3. It reall yjust depends on if there is a on going wall or a turn or something to divide the rooms, if there is a turn or line to divide the rooms then you could use 2 different colors, (but make sure they are not too dark it will only make the house look smaller!!) I would paint the cielling cause it draws the eye up and makes there look like the room as no space!! Hope this helps!!

  4. if there's an equal or visible cut off point where u can distinguish the end o one room and the beginning of another...then yes two colors would look nice.....and if u have 2 light colors..u can paint ceiling....if the are dark colors then leave the ceiling white......if one is dark and the other is light...then u have to do the same for both of them(ex.---kitchen light walls...and paint ceiling kitchen color and livig room color is dark...still have to paint ceiling the dark color)...otherwise it wouldn't look nice

  5. You should paint the living room and the kitchen the same color but dont make it to light or too dark. Make them a peach or some earthy color. Because you have a small house don't paint the ceilings! If you have low ceilings then don't paint them! It will make the room feel cramped. If its an older house you should prime the ceilings and paint them a dark white to add more light to the room. Don't paint your bedroom dark or light because youre going to wake up with a headache. Good Luck!
