Painting while pregnant?

I was planning to paint the nursery for the baby this week and needed to know if it would be ok if I painted it myself? I was planning to use one of the low odor, low VOC or no VOC paints from Sherman williams or Benjamin Moore. Also which company has the better paint in those formulas?

  1. those paints are OK, but still have good ventilation; the most dangerous part will be climbing on a ladder

  2. The VOCs are definitely what you should be concerned with.  The problem with the SW or BM brand "no VOC" paints is that while the paints themselves are no-VOC, the tints are the same as those added to every paint, and they are extremely high in VOC content.  I noticed recently that H. Dep. has a new brand of paint that comes in about 50 colors that is entirely no VOC, including the colorants, right down to the container which is environmentally friendly.  They colors are very nice.

As always, paint with the windows open, plenty of ventilation, and make sure you take it slowly in your condition.

  3. Commercial paints are generally all toxic, even the low VOC or no VOC ones.  You can actually buy organic bio-paints that aren't toxic, however the colour range is limited.

They do not contain any harmful or toxic substances. Therefore don't cause damage to man or the environment.

    and are low allergenic

Look up bio-paints or organic paints in your search engine to find places near you.

  4. Yeah, that's definitely okay if u have the right paint that will not poison the babies.
