  1. You need to use a cabinet grade enamel paint.

You might be able to match your darker wood with a product called "Minwax Polyshades"

It is a stain and polyurethane mix. It's a little more expensive than paint, but loooks much better. Comes in a variety of colors.

  2. I would leave all the furniture alone except for the bed. Find a color you like-maybe a color in your comforter-lightly sand the bed-prime and then paint it. You could bring the color into the other pieces by stenciling something on them.Do NOT try to wallpaper.

  3. Sounds like it could be a really big job.  To keep wood grain visible you would need to strip the paint or coating covering the piece of furniture.  Then I would use a alkyd glaze and you can tint it to any color you like, this would cover very well and still show the wood grain.

  4.       Re-finishing furniture isn't a casual job, if you want a good job. Strip the old finish off. Then you can decide what you want to do. A good stain, an oil stain, paint, what type, enamel, lacquer, soft satin, these are all choices and not standard.

It's not an easy job, if you have the tools, equipment, all the necessary items and a good place to do it.

If you don't have any of this, I suggest you talk to someone that does this for a hobby, maybe they could teach you something new it can be fun.

  5. You can get an indoor paint from a hardware store. Take in your colors and ask them to mix the paint to match.

If you have some designs on paper that you like, you can cut them out. Use a spray adhesive to place them on your furniture. Then cover them with a clear coat of paint.

You can also get an accent color and small artist brushes to paint your own designs on the furniture.

  6. Its much better to stain wood then it is to paint it. If you want a light color you can strip it and paint it any color you want and it will not chip as long as you primer it first.

  7. a oil base will be best for wood
