Pak-India Hockey series to release the tension between the two states, says Shaukat Ullah
The Federal Minister for Sports Engineer Shaukat Ullah said today, on April 19, in Islamabad while talking to the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) President, Qasim Zia, and the General Secretary, Asif Bajwa, in a meeting held at the Pakistan Sports Board
office.
He said that the Pakistan-India hockey series will hopefully commence soon that will help reduce the tension prevailing between the two neighbouring states, proving to be beneficial for the people of both the countries.
Both the PHF officials explained the minister about the recent developments made in the matter of reviving the sport hockey between Pakistan and India.
Shaukat Ullah applauded such a step for restoring hockey ties between the two states that have been Champions in the field of hockey. While addressing to the media personnel, he stated, "It could also play a role of catalyst to minimize distance between
the two countries and as well as increase people to people contact."
The Minister of Sports assured his full support to the PHF regarding the initiative and committed to talk about it to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to grant the approval as soon as possible.
It was also learnt that Shaukat Ullah also had discussions during the meeting regarding matters concerning the promotion of sports in Pakistan. He said that there is no shortage of talent in the country; all it requires is the need to be searched and supported.
In other developments, an event named Jinnah-Perrier Hockey Tournament took place on April 19, at the King’s Park Hockey Stadium, Kowloon in Hong Kong.
This was conducted in collaboration between the Consulate General of Pakistan, Dr. Ahmad Balal and Hong Kong Hockey Association (HKHA) for celebrating the 60th anniversary of Pak-China Diplomatic relations.
The teams that failed to play the medal-winning matches, got a chance to play the plate finals of the tournament.The plate final match took place between Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) and Singh Sabha Sports Club (SSSC) on Tuesday. The match was won by the SSSC
hockey team.
Following the event, a women’s exhibition match was held between the two teams, HKFC-A and Chairwoman’s XI, on the same day. The Chairwomen’s XI squad defeated the opponents by penalty-strokes at the end of the match.
Later, the memorable event took place in which the Jinnah-Perrier Cup final was played amongst the PHF team and the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) hockey team. The match was won by the HKFC team that was followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by Pakistan’s national Anthem. The prizes were distributed by the honourable Chief Guest, Dr. Ahmad Balal.
