“Pakistan, the epicenter of controversies”
Cricketers across the world not only enjoy immense fame and popularity but also receive sheer love and support by their fans. They are not playing cricket only for the love of cricket or as a profession but also hold great responsibility in the name of their
sport and country. They are the ambassadors of their country and present the softer image but what if their conduct ruins everything? What if their mistakes get highlighted to such an extent that their country’s reputation gets a big jerk?
If we confine the scope of this article to Pakistan only, it would be far clearer to prove the point. Pakistan was the champion of ICC World Cup In 1992, had some incomparable talent, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, Aqib Javed, Saeed
Anwar, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Moin-Khan-c77092. These were the men of honor, earned Pakistan international fame and recognition but slowly and gradually Pakistan cricket team started facing controversies.
In 1970’s, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Nawaz-Malik-c88831 was the first one to introduce reverse swing, he then forwarded this technique to Imran khan and baffled with this new technique, English team lost against Pakistan in 1992. Pakistan not only gained victory in this tour but also
sheer criticism and accusations by English media regarding reverse swing and ball tempering. It badly affected the country’s reputation as English media was really harsh. Same accusation was made by the English team against Pakistan during a test match in
2006 at the Oval. Later on both these allegations were washed away as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darrell-Bruce-Hair-c52421 and declared Pakistan to be clean.
Right after this allegation another matter popped out, that was regarding the positive dope test of Shoaib Akhter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993. They were accused of using the banned anabolic drug called Nandrolone. Both the bowlers were banned for 2 years but PCB invalidated
their bans which opened up another story that Pakistani players are being supported by their Board for their wrong actions.
All these incidents brought the worst time in terms of reputation for Pakistan and the players were all the time in news, sometimes because of their bowling style, sometimes due to their temperament, so on and so forth. We needed time to recover from this
when another major issue was raised and caused disaster. In 2010, during Pakistan’s tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 and Mohammad Asif being involved in Spot-fixing.
He declared that both the bowlers bowled no balls at the pre-decided spot during the 4th Test at Lords Cricket Ground. He also disclosed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418 had also accepted bribe to under-perform during that match. This resulted in a ban on three
of them for a period of 5 to 10 years. Not only we lost such talented fast bowlers but the damage caused to the Pakistani cricket and team’s reputation was irreparable.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has had a history of having such controversies, not because of the player’s fault every time but due to certain unfair decisions also. Players who are supposed to help in uplifting the image of their team and country indulge into wrong actions due
to their lust for money etc that they do not even what shame they have caused for their nation.
