Pakistan's Umar Akmal suffers finger injury - ICC World Cup 2011
Pakistan’s talented middle-order batsman Umar Akmal suffered a finger injury while practicing for his team’s match against Zimbabwe, which will be played on Monday, March 14, 2011. However, the scans showed no fracture on the 20-year-old’s index finger.
Team manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 said, “Umar hurt his index finger in the right hand while practicing on Thursday and we rested him as precaution. His scans were all clear.”
Umar is expected to replace his elder brother http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 in the next match as a wicket-keeper after dismal performances by the first choice keeper.
Kamran missed two stumping chances of Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 went onto win the match by 11 runs, and Kamran didn’t face too much criticism.
In another match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a magnificent century
for his team.
Soon after the match, criticism sparked against Kamran Akmal and captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, and it was believed that the team may replace the troubled wicket-keeper by his younger brother.
Umar, who is not a regular wicket-keeper, has done the job for his team on four previous occasions before, including three Twenty20 matches and a single One Day International (ODI).
However, coach of the team, Waqar Younis stated that the team didn’t have any option but to go with Kamran in the remainder of the tournament. However, he said that the out-of-form player’s future with the team would be decided after the end of the World
Cup.
Pakistan are only left with two more matches before the start of the knockout stages, and the team will look to experiment at this stage of the event rather than the quarter-finals, where there is no margin of error.
