Pakistan-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 series postponed –Cricket News Update
The Bangladesh High Court has officially postponed its national team tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, following a court order that restricts the Bengali Tigers from touring their close neighbours, for at least four weeks, mainly owing to security concerns.
The decision comes on the back of a four-month long effort, which was initiated by the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, in an attempt to restore International cricket in the country.
After finally been given a go ahead by BCB’s chief, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122, who last week confirmed that Bangladesh will play an away series, the saga rumbled on as the other board officials were still not keen on sending their team to Pakistan.
A writ application was then filed in the Bangladeshi High Court, and the eventual outcome was a four-week restriction on the national team’s travels. “It (court) asked the cricket board to explain in the next four weeks. During the four weeks, the court
imposed an injunction on the cricket team’s tour to Pakistan,” said the Additional Attorney General MK Rehman.
It is to be noted that both countries agreed to play a solitary One-Day International and a Twenty20 later this month in Lahore. This would have been the first tour of any Test playing nation in Pakistan after the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan
cricket team bus, after which international teams were not permitted to tour Pakistan due to safety concerns.
“Pakistan is not a safe place for an international sports event. No other international teams are travelling to Pakistan. Why should Bangladesh go?” said Hassan Azim, a lawyer for two petitioners.
The ill-fated turn of events has left the PCB in limbo after they recently completed most of the arrangements for their first home series in three years, and had further compiled a security report which they sent it to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625.
“The boards of both countries should have resolved the matter on their own,” said PCB chief.
The International Cricket Council has yet to respond in this regard but going by the current scenario, Pakistani fans will need to wait a little longer to see their team play at their home.
