Pakistan Coach Waqar Younis not worried over Pakistan’s poor show in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766
Pakistan coach and former strike bowler Waqar Younis has insisted that he is not worried after his team’s dismal performance against Auckland. Although, this was not a perfect start to the tour, but still, Waqar insists that it
was only a practice match and hopes that the team will do better against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 on the 26th
of this month in a Twenty20 match.
Waqar said that the team had just reached New Zealand a few days back and the players were still acclimating themselves with the new environment. He said,
“It wasn't the ideal start but that happens sometimes when you've just arrived in the country and you don't really know much about the pitch conditions, I'm not really worried about it."
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 were all out after scoring just 91 runs in just under 18 overs against a domestic side. The hosts easily chased down the target with nearly seven overs remaining.
Such lacklustre performance should be alarming for the Pakistan management, because it is always better for a touring team to go into a match, against the hosts, with a victory in behind them. However, unfortunately for Pakistan
this was their only warm-up fixture before the Boxing Day Twenty20 clash with the Kiwis.
This match yet again saw the ultimate failure of Pakistan’s fragile batting line-up, which has been an Achilles’ heel for the team almost forever now. The Pakistan Cricket Board always comes up with clichéd statements that it is
taking steps in the right direction to improve Pakistan’s batting, but these efforts have never actually been visible on the field, where the men in green have always failed.
Speaking on the failure of the team’s batting, Waqar said,
“The batting had been undergoing a good deal of work but the batsmen failed to click in the game and no-one had taken responsibility to anchor the effort."
Nevertheless, the team coach believes that the players just need to take some responsibility while batting in order to take the batting standard of the squad to a new level. This is Pakistan’s last chance to shine before the 2011
Cricket World Cup, which begins on the 19th February. The players performing in this series will most likely be named for the World Cup squad. Currently the Pakistani squad is marred with spot-fixing allegations due to which three main players Salman
Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif are out of the team. The trio cannot be selected for the national team until they are proved innocent in an International Cricket Council’s (ICC) hearing set to begin from 6th to 11th of January.
The axing of the main players has crippled the strength of the Pakistan team and almost buried their hopes of doing well in the upcoming World Cup.
