http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket 2011 - Intikhab Alam says Players do not need to interfere in Team Management
Pakistan’s reigning manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-Khan-c64382, in a televised interview has stressed the need for Pakistan players to refrain from interfering in the managerial matters of the national squad.
The 69-year old Alam, advised the players to concentrate on improving their game and performing for the national team on the field instead of bickering over managerial policies.
He was talking in light of the recent feud between former skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sahibzada-Mohammad-Shahid-Khan-Afridi-c87933, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that resulted in an early retirement from international cricket for Afridi.
According to “Inti”, a captain is supposed to lead the team from the front, he has full authority when the squad is on the field and it is the captain, who is in charge of formulating a strategy, once the team is up against the opposition.
Nonetheless, it is the coach who chalks out the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Main-c73911 course of action, before the game, and, lays out the strategies to neutralize the opposition.
Earlier, in June this year, Shahid Afridi accused the team management of abusing their authority in naming the playing eleven for the five-match One Day International series that was being played in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
According to details, having won the series 3-0, Afridi wanted uncapped players to be given a chance to play in the remaining two games. However, team coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193, did not agree with the idea.
Consequently, the tourists (Pakistan) lost both the games, which resulted in a furious outburst by Afridi in the media, on his return back home.
Afridi’s comments were not received lightly by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mal-Loye-c1879 of the PCB, who cited a breach of code of conduct, by the hot-headed all-rounder, as it is mandatory for Pakistani players not to give any statements in the media without the approval
of the cricket board.
After receiving a report from Intikhab Alam, the manager of the team, it was decided to replace the 31-year old all-rounder with Test captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-Khan-Niazi-c76385.
Afridi, seeing this as an insult to injury opted to bid farewell to international cricket and pledged not to play for Pakistan till the time Butt was in power.
Meanwhile, Alam insisted that the players need to be educated about their role in the national team, for which the PCB will be launching a proper programme. The manager hoped not face a similar situation in future after a successful enlightenment of Pakistan
cricketers.
