Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt fails
If Pakistan cricket ever needed a leader this was the moment. Pakistan cricket is going through its toughest moments in their cricket history. Three players Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt are at the centre of a spot fixing scandal in England.
Ijaz Butt is failing to provide strong leadership in Pakistan’s current dire circumstances. The country is going through one of its toughest times, but Ijaz Butt has not been able to prove his worth as a PCB chairman. He has hardly given any statements of substance.
ICC suggested Pakistan Cricket Board chairman drop the three players who have been in the alleged match fixing scandal. These players should not take part in the remaining tour, for the best interest of the game. It will not please the cricket fans on the either side. Fans might not take part in the matches greatly. Ijaz Butt didn’t listen to the ICC, and did not care for the integrity of the game, and did not care about the faith of the fans of the game. He made Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt available for selection.
The ICC stepped in after Ijaz Butt’s statement that the alleged players will be available for selection. ICC took the charge of the spot fixing issue. ICC mentioned, “If Pakistan cricket board will not take any action then we have to look into the matter. ICC will not bare any corruption in cricket”. ICC suspended the trio under their code of conduct. The trio cannot take further part in any form of cricket till they are proven innocent. The alleged players, if found guilty will be punished severely.
In most of the cases when the players of different countries have found themselves guilty of any crime, their respective cricket boards step in early, before the ICC. They investigate the crime, and if the players have been found guilty they are punished by them. Shane Warne’s doping case is a prime example. Shane Warne tested positive for a banned substance, just before the World Cup. The Australian Cricket board stepped in early. They suspended Shane Warne, investigated the matter. Shane Warne was proven guilty, and was banned for one year form all forms of international cricket.
Ijaz Butt should have looked into the matter before the ICC. He should have suspended the players on trial basis for the integrity of the game. He should have investigated the matter under his provision.
The Yasir Hameed fiasco is another example of Ijaz Butt’s weak leadership. Yasir Hameed has been in the news for the last couple of days for all the wrong reasons. The News of the World did a sting operation against Yasir Hameed. Yasir Hameed revealed many obdurate things about Pakistan cricket. He quoted, “Every second Pakistan match is fixed. The match between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 2004’s champions’ trophy was a fix. Pakistan cricket board should investigate about the Australian tour. How can Mohammad Asif buy four bungalows?”.
The News of the World showed the video of Yasir Hameed on television. Yasir Hameed first denied it and then said “I was trapped. I did not give any interview to any newspaper. They had a hidden camera. Mazhar Mehmood came to me as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 said to me, I will pay you 50,000 pounds if you will record your statements against these three alleged players”. Yasir denied him and reported this situation to the cricket board.
The proceedings have been very tough for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 does not care about anything that can happen. A strong leader should have taken precautionary measures against disciplinary violations.
