Pakistan Cricket Board Drops http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, more to it than meets the eye –
Pakistan Cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a mysterious yet hasty manner has replaced the manager of the Pakistan cricket team Intikhab Alam, who will no longer be accompanying the team during the upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
This latest development has come without a warning which has left many to think as to what may have happened that convinced the cricket board to relieve Alam from his duties.
Perhaps, an interview by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 has something to do with Alam’s unexpected departure.
The 69-year-old Alam was criticised by Afridi in the past for being a hypocrite, after the skipper was removed from his captaincy in May, 2011 after Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies.
According to insiders it was Alam’s tour report that had convinced PCB chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 to remove the flamboyant Afridi from the captaincy of the national team.
Alam on the other hand, blamed Afridi for being immature and rash in his interview with a Pakistani sports channel.
The former manager was also responsible for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zulqarnain-Haider-c98685 debacle and although he was not held accountable by the PCB, cricket fans in Pakistan believe that it was his negligence which enabled Haider to get hold of his passport which he used to get
out of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Ironically, instead of including Alam in the investigation, he was made the member of the inquiry team which conveniently filed a report to the PCB, eyeing Haider as a person with a confused personality.
The PCB should have at least enquired Alam as to how the player got hold of the passport which is supposed to remain with the team manager throughout an overseas tournament.
Nevertheless, perhaps the PCB has realized that it was time to give a new face to the team management and hope for the new guy to run things in more transparent manner.
A bigger question might be, whether the board is also considering removing the head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 who has also had his share of grievances with certain players in the Pakistan national team.
Afridi has already made his intentions clear that he has had problems with Waqar that resulted in his early retirement from cricket, famous all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 is also believed to have differences with the head coach which shows that if the PCB decides
to recall some of the discarded senior players then they may have to sideline Waqar as well to keep things running smoothly in the national squad.
However, it is perhaps too early to assume big changes in Pakistan cricket but keeping the past in mind, this may very much be on the cards in the coming days, especially if chairman PCB Ijaz Butt is sent home in October when his contract ends.
With the new chairman at the realms of Pakistan cricket, things are destined to take a new turn which might favour Afridi and his band of discarded cricketers to make a comeback in the national team.
